On Thursday, prior to leaving for Mar-a-Lago for the holiday, President Donald Trump left the White House for an unscheduled trip. When he left, many reporters weren’t sure where he was going. But Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted out the details of the trip and what happened, it was truly powerful.
Trump headed out to Walter Reed Hospital and while there, had the opportunity to spend time with wounded military members and their families.
From Daily Caller:
The hospital is the largest military hospital in the country and is the first stop stateside for many wounded American military members.
Trump’s unannounced visit included meeting with wounded active-duty service members and their families. When the president arrived at the hospital, he sat with family members of the wounded.
But he also had a very solemn duty to perform while there.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted about it and how profound the experience was.
One of the most powerful moments of my life watching POTUS give the Purple Heart to this American Hero. Amazed by the strength and resilience of the men and women in our Armed Forces.

The president gave out Purple Hearts to a number of members of the military who had been wounded serving their country. One of the oldest awards for the military in this country, created by George Washington, the Purple Heart is awarded for being wounded in combat.
He also sent Vice President Mike Pence to Afghanistan to thank the several hundred troops stationed at Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan. According to Fox, Pence said now they were “making real progress,” and “I believe victory is closer than ever before.”
Trump and his administration have always stressed care for the military and how seriously he takes their sacrifice.
And it’s great that Sarah Huckabee Sanders was there to put into perfect words what Americans would feel.
